Top 5 By Position in Section 6

At the risk of offending many die-hard lacrosse fans in Western New York, here are my Top 5 preseason picks at each position. I get a chance to see a good amount of scholastic and tournament lacrosse throughout the year. However, I am no expert by any means. These are players I have seen in action, and their play has in some way left an impression on me. Don't like my picks? That's fine. If not these guys, who do you pick as your top 5? I look forward to your responses.

Top 5 Attackman
Joe Resatarits - Hamburg
Jeff Tundo - Orchard Park

Tyler Strassburg - WSE
Brent Doerflein - Amherst
Casey Rich - Amherst

Top 5 Middies

Matt Ferrino - Orchard Park
Sean Smith - Amherst
Kevin Lalley - Orchard Park
Jordan Collins-Hartwig - Clarence
LSM - Greg Bensman - WSE

Top 5 Defensemen

Clay Del Prince - Frontier
Ethan Murphy - WSE
Barret Gast - Orchard Park
Jimmy Cardinale - Sweet Home

Top 5 Goalkeepers

It's really hard to pick a top 5 but here it goes:
Attack:
Doerflein (Amherst)
Resetarits (Hamburg)
Balica (OP)
Tundo (OP)
Emmitt Printup (Nia. Wheat)

Middies:
Dimillo (WSE)
Elijah Printup (Nia. Wheat)
Lalley (OP)
Ferrino (OP)
Battista (Frontier)

Defense:
Gast (OP)
Tenbrock (OP)
Walczyk (Iroquois)
DelPrince (Frontier)
Ramirez (Hamburg)

Goalies:
White (Canisius)
Stasio (Will North)
Maxwell (Hamburg)
Cole (OP)
Lawless (St. Francis)

Moran (OP) is the most dominant faceoff player in section 6 bar none. I guess I'm a little biased towards the southtowns but that's the way I feel.

I appreciate your choices but both are way off. Adding Printup to attack is a A+, Belica does not even make the top ten. Dropping Rich (A)

You both forgot Allaire OP, Wagner Cansius. DelPrince for lsm, he is the total player, defense and offense, if Frontier had better close defenders he would rule the position. Some previous mentioned players have to realize in college not playing defense puts you on the pine.

At defense Wagner OP and Michaels OP, also Monahan in Amherst belong in the top five. These three show better fundamentals and quickness than any of the previous top five.

Goalie there is a top 1, and 4 others, Lawless

Moran is going to do big things

Kudo's to the last post you got it closer than the 2 previous.

Top five should not be the headline grabbers but the ones who play to the whistle with and away from the ball, something many of the players from previous posts lack.

I couldn't agree more with KingofLax. Many of the players listed have great talent but at this point lack that critical ingredient that will make them successful at the next level. Being a "full" player in this game is the most important component.

lockport is a relatively new program but they do have a heck of a face off guy in Pass. they also have two respectable goalies - the one they have is real tough.

I am glad laxbro agrees, in comparison with the college game are local players lack specific skills. The college game is passing to set up others, while here it is one on one dodging with the more skilled player often winning. In college that is not possible due to better defenders and defensive schemes. I recently watched a college game where the d ran a five man zone with extended pressure to the ball. It was amazing to watch, dodging was dead. Therefore I caution all of you players seeing your name in print. Lacrosse is the ultimate team game ( W Genney has no STARS ). Teams win championships not individuals

west genny has no stars yet somehow they send countless kids to divison one schools and one of the best goalies in the country right now (galloway) played there last year ......but no they have no stars

Anonymous said...

Obviously the last post never seen Genny play. It is a total team game with them. They run a strutured offense and often hit the third slide, WNY teams barely hit the first( if they get that far in the progression ). There defense is disciplined with few mistakes. I will admit Galloway is a star, born in a team system. There team's success has provided these players a look from the D1'S. Similar to the Maryland Prep schools. Maybe I'm wrong, only central NY creates stars that win state titles again and again. Section 6 just creates stars that don't win state titles.

I guess it gets down to who you think as a better all-around game at LSM. Del Prince or Bensman? I grade them both out the same. I agree with previous post:
"DelPrince for lsm, he is the total player, defense and offense, if Frontier had better close defenders he would rule the position." However, Bensman can be downright mean. It may be the difference in playing at the next level!

I've played with or against all of them, here is a players top picks

attack

J Res best player in sect can score and assist. toughest to defend, great guy
Emmitt P - tough, great shot, great hands in tight
Tundo - at times predictable, but tough / gritty

MIDDS

Lalley - when hot can't be stopped can go l or r
Printup - easiest of 3 to defend, quick realease
Ferrino - has a rocket left or right, but you know when it is coming
Allaire - DM - he will just out hurt you

D'S
Monahan - tough, strong, steady great to play with
Wagner - uses stick like ginsu knife, best off ball
Murphy - rough, but much improved this year
Del Prince LSM - does it all fo,d,scores,I wish he played with me.

Goal

Lawless incredible, guys like him only come around so often

Just some honest thoughts

who does everyone think will be teh 6 all americans this year ?

Unknown said...

As for this years All-Americans, great question but hard to answer with the politics, plus coach Tundo faling to noninate any of his mids for first team all-wny last will hurt Lalley and Ferrino. We all know Tundo will get it because of who his dad is.

Resestarits(ham)
lawless(st.F)
wagner(canisius)
Lalley(0p)
Printup x 2

There will be some surprises like Bensemen last year. Amherst will have a say if Rich produces. Frontier, Willy east, Willy north, iroquios all have kids who deserve looks.
An AA is not how many goals one score but how he spports his team as a whole. Anyone can score 5o goals if all they do is shoot.
God luck to all and just play your game.

Little known -Defensive player started as an 8th grader at Hamburg, now in 9th, watch this kid-could be the best WNY in the future. rest of your picks right on.

Anonymous said...

Well guys the top 2 fogos in WNY have got to be Mike Moran - op and Ryan Wagner - Canisius. You could build a power house around these 2. Imagine having both on your team.
Well Clay Delprince stock has risen with studting down Strassburg, and hold Tundo to 3 assit.
Strassburg stock has drop big time. He needs to put up big numbers against Hamburg and Amherst to even be considered for All-American and WNY. Goals aginst Gowanda and Nichols do nothing.
Emmitt Printup has lots to prove also. Let's see how he does aginst Frontier, Op, Hamburg.
Doerflien stock has risen ao best Attack in WNY, then Resetarits, then Tundo.
As for mids Well Lalley and Ferrino for OP need to step up. Wagner for Canisius is best mid in area.
The Op d and Frontier D are the best in the area. Frontier held OP to 12, WSE to 1 Amherst to 7. Op held Amhest to 6, frontier to 7.
hamburg is untested yet.

Anonymous said...

you refering to players as stocks is a joke and not only that but your preception of players is terrible, saying doerflien is better then resterits tundo and strassburg is pretty ridiculous mayb equal but not far greater. rich has not played his A game yet and has some games where he is getting shut down. when he played OP his father was so frustrated w/ his play he screamed to the crowd come see the rich show at cuse. Well i cannot see him even getting time at cuse due to his play. i totally agree w/ the fogos they are above and beyond the best in the area. Next is middies which lally and ferrino are stepping it up and deffinalty candiates for AA. after that printup which is been playing very good. then domres. defense is clay then murphy then wagner and then the fourth spot is up 4 grabs

Anonymous said...

RICH HASENT EVEN SIGNED WITH SYRACUSE! HIS GRADES ARE IN QUESTION.

Anonymous said...

My dad was at the OP game and the Frontier Amhesrt game. He was talking to a college coachs who told him Doerflien is playing the best right now. Good # against good teams. Joey R has not gone against anyone good yet. Tundo is hurt (ankle) Even the man Mike F from PS agrees. Did you hear him on the radio.
Hey the season is still early and things happen. Who is your favorite to win player of the year? Which I think is dumb in mst team orinated sport.
