Post Season Is Upon Us

Hey folks,
Yeah, it's me again. Their is nothing worse than a guy who starts a blog and then disappears for two months! Sorry I haven't added anything lately, but my life has been a whirlwind of lacrosse these past 10 weeks. Not that I'm complaining mind you. The blog seems to have taken off by itself (I guess if you plant a seed...). In any case, most of the comments have had some interesting insights. Some a little too negative. We want to grow lacrosse in Section 6, not divide it. So try to stay positive and limit the personal attacks. None will be tolerated towards any players, period. With that said, let's talk some lacrosse...
Post Season Playoffs:
Class A: I would be highly surprised if anybody could knock off Orchard Park. I've seen them play four times. They are downright scary, and still have yet to put together their best game. The Quakers midfield is probably the best in the WNY. I'm sure Niagara Wheatfield will have something to say about it down the line, but after watching them several times (including against OP) I don't think they have the defense to carry it through. They have given up alot of goals this season. I don't know if it will translate come playoff time. Frontier may challenge like last year, but won't be able to match up athletically to the top two. Clarence and the rest drop off considerably and will be watching the finals from the sideline.
Class B: I've seen Hamburg play three times. They are by far the fastest team. While not overly physical, Hamburg is a pleasure to watch. Their "team" approach to the game of lacrosse is what makes them so special. They are the class of the B division right now. No team in their league has gotten close. They have outscored their Class B opponents 127-27 during the regular season. (and that from a coach who refuses to score anything past 18 on an opponent) They are for real. Amherst seems to be headed for a return trip to the finals against the Bulldogs. Always capable of anything, Coach Henn should have the Tigers ready to compete. So who knows? However the 16-5 regular season defeat at the hands of Hamburg may be fresh in their minds. Williamsville East has had a very successful season and may be around to challenge. However, they may not have the firepower to stay will the big dogs. The rest of the Bs are not ready to challenge for the title. But that's why we play the games, now don't we!
Class C: I think the "C" stands for Crazy! This division is a complete toss up, as any team is capable of beating each other on any given day. I'm interested, do teams actually play defense in this division? The scores are commonly in the double digits, often times both teams. Salamanca seems to control the C division during the regular season. However, East Aurora has played very well of late. I won't venture to guess as I have seen few of these teams play in 2008.

State Playoffs:
Class A: I watched Canandaigua handle both Orchard Park and Hamburg. If Orchard Park goes, they will have to play alot better than they did on May 9th. The Braves will be tough to beat. They are on a different level, and may be headed on a collision course with West Genny in the semis. However, don't count OP out. They are talented bunch, and capable of knocking off Canandaigua if given a second chance. Canandaigua will also have to get past Penfield and Irondequoit. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
Class B: I think Hamburg has the best chance to continue. The far west regional will probably be a rematch of last year's game against Geneva. The Bulldogs were not ready last season. This year they will be, learning what it takes to play at that level. Geneva will be very physical. Hamburg will have to use their speed to counter. I think it would be a great matchup.
Class C: Whomever comes out of Section 6 will be fodder for Penn Yan as usual. In the history of the C classification, no Section 6 team has come close to them. We won't be able to compete. Penn Yan is down a bit this year, however, not down enough to lose to to Section 6.

Well, what do you think? Playoffs start in a week. Hope to see everyone out at the games. Both the sectional finals and Far west regionals will be held at Lew-Port High School.

Class A: This may sound like a reach but I expect Frontier to knock off Niagra Wheatfield. Frontier is a much more sound team that plays together. Ward on attack is one of the most underrated players in section 6 along with Najeski in net. Del-prince and company will put something together to win. However nobody will beat op in sec 6A.
Finals:(OP-15 Frontier-5)

Class B: I would love to see Williamsville East knock off Amherst in round two. I watched them play eachother in the season and Will East played one of their worst games of the season. If Durden on defense and Sheehan in goal play to full potential, dont be surprised if they win by a small margin. However nobody will beat Resitarits,Domres,Feurstein and company in sec 6B.
Finals:(W.E.-4 Hamburg-13)

Class C: Although I dont know much about Class C, I still think East Aurora will win the title here. Salamanca may be on their way back to where they were years ago but I still think East Aurora has one more champinoship left to win.
Finals:(E.A.-11 Salamanca-10)

I think Hamburg's Defense is under rated ! Ask the teams that played them. Defense along with Maxwell in goal, hard to beat. Defense along with the scoring machine they have,... it is an unbeatable combination for most teams to deal with. Only OP can beat them in WNY. , too bad OP will not agree to play them.

Hamburgs d is underrated and with maxwell in goal they cant be stoped. their d along with the scoring machine has the chance to go deep into the state playoffs. they are a very strong team.

Sleepers

(Class A) Williamsville North: They are hot right now and are starting to play complete games. They have beaten some big name teams that I could not have believed. (Frontier!?!?...Sweet Home....West Seneca East!?!?) Clarence however is going in the opposite direction. Expect Will North to be the favorite coming into the game.

(Class B) Williamsville East. Williamsville in general has something to prove this playoff season. They are a steady team that have surprised us this year with a few of their game results this year. Amherst may be too strong however.

(Class C) Eden. If they can knock off a down East Aurora team in round two, they will meet up with Salamanca in the Class C finals. They have played them twice this year, and played them tough. Dont be too surprised if you see Eden steal the Sec 6 Class C ring.

Dissapointments

(Class A) Clarence. They are having a decent season this year but they are not the team that everyone thought they would be this year. Yes they have talent but it sometimes diminishes. Im taking North over Clarence round 1.

(Class B) Most would say WSE, but I am going to pick Sweet Home. They are a powerhouse when they want to be but they dont have the consistency to succeed in the playoffs. They brought amherst to OT, and beat Williamsville East, yet recently they lost to GI and Will North...Dosent sound like a solid team to me when they could have made some noise.

(Class C) Definetly Akron. They were a team that was getting some hype to come out with a ring in class C, but they have done nothign this year to prove they can play with the big dogs in Class C. They are my biggest dissapointment.

Winners

(Class A) Orchard Park....I dont have to explain myself, but I will say Niagra Wheatfield wont go down without a fight.

(Class B) Hamburg. Sorry Amherst and Will East guys. Hamburg is a force that will not be stopped.

(Class C) Eden. I and the Eden guys are the only ones seeing it coming. Salamanca is so strong but overated and beatable. Any given sunday right?

i really hope nw gets knocked off. i heard last night that when the lockport game went to running clock in the fourth lockport put in all their subs, while nw kept all their starters in the entire game. 2 or 3 of printups goals came in the garbage time at the end. he was frustrated early in the game. it looked like lockport seemed to get all their players including jv call ups in the game once it went to running time. i don't understand why you'd want to run up the score at this time of the season, why you'd risk injury to your starters and why you wouldn't want to give your subs some time. lockport hung with them early in the game, i think it was 3-1 after the first but nw started taking over then.

Why does Amherst player the 6 seed and Hamburg the 4th?

I wish Op would play Hamburg and put this who is better team to rest. I do think it looks like this:

Coaching goes to Op without question - Far Superior coaching

Attack Hamburg Superior

O Mids and D Mids Op- Far Superior

D long poles-even both teams have great D poles

Due to OP Mids and Coaching OP Wins by 3 or 4

Section VI lacrosse re-seeds each round. Top seed playes the bottom seed each round. As it should be-to reward the regular season. Many sports do not re-seed (i.e. Baseball).

Great site!

Check out what the News did after the Monsignor Martin final. Pretty sick:

Its nice to have OP and Hamburg not play. It adds some well needed healthy controversy to the section 6 lax world. The more teams people talk about the better it is for all of section 6.

Class A - NW Frontier should be a war. But, I think OP wins A

Class B - Hamburg should win it all, but, if Amherst ever figures out how to play a full 4 quarters and gets the ball to its best players at the right time they may give the Bulldogs a match.

Class C - Salamanca will take C.

I’d like to congratulate Jim Miasano and the West Seneca East Lacrosse Program for the positive season that they have produced. There seemed to be a lot of negative comments flying around regarding WSE and Coach Miasano. It simply goes to show that those that pretend to know it all...don’t. Too many living room coaches out there. A lot more goes on behind the scenes than anyone would like to know…especially when they are not at every practice each day.

Jim and the team minimized our Sweet Home team and we basically struggled to have any success in our 1st round playoff game against WSE. Then to take down Amherst @ Amherst in the semi-final game speaks volumes. Even knowing that Amherst had to sit a player or players for team reasons.

Bottom-line: WSE vs Hamburg in the Class B Final…enough said.

Great season to both programs…all the best the rest of the way.
